About Thomas D. Hill
During his tenure as CEO of Meridian, Idaho-based ESI Construction, Thomas D. Hill was instrumental in the expansion of the prominent general contracting and construction management firm. Established more than 50 years ago, ESI Construction is a key player in the construction industry, with operations across 41 states and 36 countries. The firm’s work includes a diverse range of projects in sectors such as retail, education, healthcare, commercial offices, public works, industrial and distribution, grocery, hospitality (hotels) and restaurants, community living, tenant improvements, fuel, and water and wastewater.
Tom Hill’s Entrée into Construction
Tom Hill, CEO, worked in the banking industry in Dallas, Texas, from 1985 to 1992. In 1992, he acquired ESI, a dormant construction company, and restarted the firm with four employees. During the last three decades as CEO, he grew the company to its present of more than 1,100 employees. Every employee and their families are provided with fully employer-paid medical and dental insurance.
Under his leadership, Tom Hill, ESI Construction, built a company dedicated to quality work, safety, and first-choice service. Clients have come to depend on the firm’s experience, service, and integrity and to deliver on its promises. The entire team behind ESI Construction is committed to the demands of each client and project.
ESI has completed major projects in Southern Idaho, including for Boise State University (BSU). In fact, over the years, Thomas D. ESI Construction’s Portfolio of Services
ESI offers a comprehensive suite of services, including construction management, general contracting, design-build, self-performance, special projects, and service and maintenance. Its construction management process involves providing complete transparency of a project’s budget, quality, and schedule. General contracting services include applying the firm’s proven project management processes along with its construction technology to execute a client’s design effectively. Its design-build services help minimize managing multiple vendor contractors and reduce project timeframes.
While Hill led the company, ESI Construction grew its self-perform field trade work. Specialties include concrete paving, removal, and replacement; structural concrete; site concrete, including curb/gutter, concrete paving, and barrier wall; flatwork; reinforcing, with post-tension install and repair; earthwork; rough carpentry; fixturing; and specialty electrical.
The Special Projects Division at ESI focuses on smaller construction projects, tenant improvements and remodels, and other construction services. Its Express Division is made up of skilled and dependable service managers as well as hands-on, self-performing service superintendents. Its team is available around the clock to tackle any task of any size, from check-stand repairs to massive structure remodels. They work with national customers on tenant upgrades, repairs, general service and maintenance, and warranty work.
Safety First at Work
Tom Hill, CEO, and the team’s commitment to quality and safety is evident through their extensive experience, with over 79.5 million square feet of retail projects completed and a strong emphasis on safety protocols, as reflected in the company’s Experience Modification Rate of 0.43.
Hill’s Commitment to Giving Back
Thomas D. Hill is dedicated to paying it forward. Under his leadership, ESI Cares, a charitable nonprofit organization, was formed in 2018. ESI Cares provides meaningful support to community organizations. It established a metal recycling program, which provides funds for the nonprofit and the community.
Hill personally has donated a car to the Notus High School Driver’s Ed program and sponsored numerous field trips at Notus Elementary over the past 10 years. He is currently sponsoring eight students to attend private school, and he and his wife, Kimbra, have been paying for a full-time School Resource Officer (SRO) at a local private school since COVID.
Tom Hill, CEO, has also donated to the Caldwell Police Department to help fund its mounted unit.
In addition, Hill and his wife have supported the Caldwell Fair 4-H Sale for 10 years. Kimbra serves on the board of the Dress for Success Boise branch, and the couple has sponsored the mobile boutique for the last decade.
Other charitable work includes donating to the Wishes for Warriors Charity and sponsoring many families at Christmas, including supporting single moms during the holiday. Since 2008, Hill has been a donor to the Victory Center for Autism. He has also sponsored many students attending BSU, paying their tuition in full.
Education and Personal Life
Tom Hill, ESI Construction, graduated with honors from Baylor University, Waco, Texas, in 1985 with a BBA in Finance.
Hill was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and graduated from Lincoln High School. He married Kimbra in 2015, and they have two children, Piper and Teddy. The family lives in Eagle, Idaho.
He enjoys traveling with his family, flying, hiking, and being in the outdoors.
